A 10-year-old U.S. citizen, recovering from brain cancer surgery, was deported to Mexico alongside her undocumented parents and four siblings, all U.S. citizens, after being detained at a Texas immigration checkpoint while en route to a medical appointment in Houston. Despite presenting medical documentation, the family was denied passage. U.S. Customs and Border Protection offered them the choice to leave their children in the U.S. or have the entire family deported together; they chose to stay united. Now in Mexico, the children face inadequate medical care, with the 10-year-old missing crucial post-surgery treatment.
